Renting is a popular option among students - this is when a student rents an apartment or house by themselves or with other people.

Average weekly costs vary between NZ$80-$150 for a shared apartment/house or NZ$180-$350 for your own apartment/house, plus utility expenses. A landlord will normally request a bond (1-4 weeks of rent) as security, plus 1-2 weeks rent in advance, and if rented via an agency, there may also be an agency fee to pay. The bond will be returned to the student at the end of tenancy as long as accounts are paid in full and the house is well maintained.
