Dec 5, 2011
Friday the 18th of November saw the graduation of another talented group of students that completed their chef training with Quantum’s Culinary Institute of New Zealand in the Bay of Islands in 2011. Graduation was a stunning day and gave the students, parents, supporters and all staff at the Culinary Institute the opportunity to celebrate a year of success for both the students and the institute alike with a graduation ceremony which will not be forgotten.
A total of 24 students were presented with their certificates of completion by Shirley Budd on behalf of the Board of Directors. The following awards were also presented to a number of students for outstanding achievements throughout the year:
Top Level 4 Student: Karen Ishikawa (Japan)
Runner Up: Julia Gerdan (UK)
Top Level 3 Student: Zoe Edmonds (NZ)
Runner up: Miriam Mclvor (NZ)
‘Front of House’ Trophy: Miriam Mclvor (NZ)
Exceptional Effort Award: Bunty Kani (NZ)
Outstanding Commitment to Hospitality Award: Rimu Whittington (NZ)
All students received gorgeous books from The Culinary Institute, and the Hospitality Standards Institute kindly gave books to Karen Ishikawa and Zoe Edmonds as the top students for 2011.
In the true family spirit of the Culinary Institute, a group of Level 3 students put their heads together to personally thank the staff with a gift for each one of them, all of which had a personal touch. The students did not get off lightly with tutors also having a number of items up their sleeves for a number of students.
To top the afternoon off, the Culinary Institute’s October intake students put on a buffet under the watch of culinary tutor Ian Jones, showcasing the young talent coming through the ranks.
